NEW! A FREE companion worksheet for Living Life from the Inside Out: Who You Are Matters.

We all need balance in our lives. We all want happiness. We think that if we had money and possessions we will feel good about ourselves. However, too often people define themselves by their titles, money, and possessions. No matter how much they have, it is never enough. And when they lose them, they feel even more empty. This is living life from the outside in. This book turns the paradigm upside down suggesting that true happiness can be found by living life from the inside out. The book is based on both empirical research and Dr. Dreyfus‘ 45 years of first-hand experience working with individuals, couples, and groups in his clinical psychology and life coaching practice. It includes case studies, vignettes, and personal experiences with real people with whom the reader can identify. The book is written for people of all ages, men and women, straight or gay. There is something in it for everyone. Anyone who has experienced a personal tragedy, loss of a job, divorce; anyone seeking greater fulfillment and happiness will profit from this read. Written in a down to earth style it will appeal to both the casual reader and the individual on a quest for self-understanding. It has something for the professional as well as layman interested in human behavior and growth.

Here is a sampling of the testimonials that the book has received:

I love the simplicity of this book. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity. The messages and exercises are powerful. But the author keeps it simple, easy to understand and most importantly easy to put into action to get results. It feels real, down to earth and I could very much relate to the messages and lessons. I saw myself so much in the book and learned a lot about what I want to change. I love that it’s a quick and easy read – I actually made time to read this book (which I don’t always do). Thanks for making it so easy. Very timely with everything going on in the world and in my life.

This wonderful book is a passionate plea for values-based living. In easy-to-read chapters, Dr. Dreyfus combines psychological wisdom with clear steps to a happier, more fulfilling life. There’s so much in the book that I had to read a chapter, think about it for a couple of days, and only then go on to the next one. It’s a book to read over and over again.

This is a wonderful gem of a book that has one foot in psychology and one foot in philosophy. Easy to read, it is a book for essentially healthy people who are struggling with anxieties or other emotional difficulties and who, according to the author, have their life priorities upside down (or inside out, as the title implies.) Dr. Dreyfus lays out a clearly humanistic, realistic approach to understanding the bases for many of our very human problems and follows that with a do-able, non-jargony or overly pathologized way of dealing with the difficulties life presents to many middle or uppper middle class individuals in our society.
